I know this isn’t some miraculous transformation. The transition I made in a year is made in months for others. I didn’t get visible abs, bones, or biceps. There is barely a ten pound difference between these photos.

I don’t care about any of those things, because this past year has given me far more than a stunning before and after. I’m aware of my body for the first time in my life; how it responds to healthy food and how it performs under pressure. I lift, I run, I eat mindfully. This is all far more valuable progress than a breathtaking weight loss.

2013 will be even better. Let’s do this.

Dear Self, Please make sure the people around you know you play violin next time you say, "My G-string broke in class..." Sincerely, awkward.

Anonymous asked: explaining a violin vs. a viola

A violin is smaller than a viola, and has a brighter register. A viola is slightly bigger than a violin and has a deeper register. The viola and the violin share 3 strings in common (A, D, G) but the violin has a high E on top and the viola has a low C on the bottom. Also, the violin reads treble clef, while the viola reads alto clef.

Hope that answered your question! :)
